Cat Ingrams
constructions, printmaking
I have been making small box constructions with minimal black and white interior elements for almost twenty years. These play with formal exercises of getting specific levels of natural light into the space and controlling the narrative to some extent with a restricted view through very small openings/windows; exploring the nature of vision and inner experience with a special interest in the power of the architectural imaginary. More recently experimental printmaking has taken my practice in new directions, diving into process and material to find unexpected ways of capturing modes of being, consciousness, the human condition. This is a lot messier than my constructions and the destination is rarely known, which all seems highly appropriate at this stage of the ‘game’.
Threshold, mixed media, box 3 of 3 [detail]. 22cm x 24cm x 22.5cm
