Our extra October event was a visit to the current exhibition at VOLT gallery, Existence Proof by Rottingdean Bazaar, and a talk given by Devonshire Collective's curator Polly Wright. Existence Proof is an exhibition of new works by multi-disciplinary artists of Rottingdean Bazaar.

The title Existence Proof comes from a registration document Rottingdean Bazaar was required to complete during a commercial project to prove their existence as a legal entity; here it brings together more than fifteen works by the artists.

This exhibition is one of three commissions by Rottingdean Bazaar currently on show in Eastbourne. For the duration of the exhibition, VOLT Gallery also features their window installation made in partnership with photographer Annie Collinge, their long-time collaborator. For this work they assembled and photographed groups of individually sourced doll’s house curtains and windows. This forms the latest in Devonshire Collective’s ongoing series of window commissions.

Rottingdean Bazaar are James Theseus Buck and Luke Brooks. Working together as a duo since 2015, their artistic practice spans contemporary art, creative direction, fashion design, installation and video direction. James Theseus Buck (b. 1989, Brighton, UK) graduated from Central Saint Martins MA Fashion course in 2015. Luke Brooks (b. 1986, London, UK) graduated from the same course in 2012. Rottingdean Bazaar live and work in Rottingdean, East Sussex, UK. This event included an introduction to the work, a tour of the show and the opportunity to ask Polly questions.

Thanks to all those who braved the wet weather to join us at Volt to meet Polly Wright and learn more about the current exhibition by Rottingdean Bazaar at Devonshire Collective ‘s gallery space. It was good to see the space transformed with some fun works that made us all smile and engage. Thanks to Gaynor Sadlo & Polly Wright for organising the evening. Do try and get along before it closes on the 12th November - open Thursday to Sunday.
